Maunawili Falls

Maunawili-Falls-fullshot.jpg

Liv, Amy, Don, and I went for a hike up to some hidden falls up near Kailua. You have to hike just over a mile to get to these falls. The reward though is a beautiful waterfall falling into a pool you can swim in. I think that this may be the best place we have found on the island up to this point. Great place to go, and the hike isn’t that bad.

Offer #2

I got another job offer last night. The job is for a company that acts as the IT department for various companies. If a company needs to purchase hardware they can do it through this company. They want to setup a network, they can do it through this company. They want to setup servers, or computers they call this company. It also deals with tech support as part of this deal. The basic idea is these guys are there for companies that don’t want to pay people on staff all the time to do their tech work for them. They rather would pay people when they need them. That is were HPSI comes in.

It is a full time job, with about 20% office and 80% in the field work.

I am on a 30 day temporary status but if they like me and their clients like me this will get bumped to regular employee status and I will receive a pretty sweet medical plan at no cost to me.

As for vacation after 6 months from my start date I am given 10 days a year. This get’s better over time, but it means I will have vacation I can use over Christmas break to come home to Washington and see family. Yay!

The pay is pretty good, upper part of $30k – 40k, but that is what tech people get paid on this island. There just isn’t much over here in terms of tech. However, there is great advancement opportunities and performance based pay increases over time.

While this is not a programming job ( there could be small projects here and there ) it is going to give me experience in everything from setting up networks to managing servers and that can lead to a very nice career as well so I’m not being choosy and I’m pretty happy over all. I start on Tuesday at 8:30 am.

Thanks for keeping me in your thoughts and I think this job will be great.

hmmm

So in case any of you out there don’t know, the programming startup that offered me a job didnt secure funding for my position before they offered the position. To make a long story short and a short story um long, I am still looking for work. Liv’s school was nice enough to bring me back to work in the computer lab while I look and help out their tech director.

Today there was a teacher appreciation day and folks from the community brought in food for our lunches..

It was amazing, there was tons of food, everything from sushi to ribs. The food filled up over two tables and there was alot left. I’m really glad I came back. :)

I’m going to go hide in the back of the computer lab now and take a nap..

In other news, my parents bought their plane tickets and my grandma and aunt found a rental place so everything is in order for a visit from them.

I have a interview scheduled for next friday and got an letter today saying I qualify for a job with the DOE and if any openings are up I will get my info passed over to be considered. Not as good as a interview but it opens the door for them
